Over time, millennials in Indonesia continue to demonstrate outstanding cognitive abilities and skills and possess great potential for the business world in Indonesia. Millennials are also more Internet-literate; so as to encourage digital innovation in all lines of the business sector. The ability to innovate in the world of technology equates millennials with excellent multitasking skills. These facts make PT. Krakatau Bandar Samudera, also known as Krakatau International Port (a Krakatau Steel Subsidiary) continue to look at the role of millennials to develop in the company.

CEO of Krakatau International Port, Akbar Djohan, considers that the presence of millennials in the corporate environment is an imperative asset for revenue growth as well as productivity. Akbar argues that millennials possess a principled mindset towards unlocking value—so that results in frequent innovations that continue to be created and certainly have an important effect on the effectiveness and efficiency of the company’s production. He also encourages millennials to have an entrepreneurial mindset to be implemented in state-owned enterprises (SOEs).

“There are more than 60% of employees in Krakatau International Port who are of millennial age and 44% of those in managerial levels also come from the millennial generation. This is in line with the hope of SOE minister Erick Thohir to provide increasingly diverse workspaces and spaces for women and millennials in leading state-owned enterprises and other companies in Indonesia. We also encourage and shape the mindset of entrepreneurship to possess an acceleration in our work environment,” Akbar mentioned in his statement.

Akbar Djohan, who is also the Secretary General of the Indonesian Logistics and Forwarder Association, exclaimed that Krakatau International Port possesses employees and directors with unique backgrounds. Besides the millennial generation of young people, there are also generations in it such as Baby Boomers, Gen-X, and Gen-Y who also share a similar trajectory of thinking. The integration and collaboration of these unique implications makes for great potential to advance Krakatau International Port as a well-known port services company in Indonesia.

“Millennials today possess a forward-thinking mindset and an entrepreneurial mentality. [Their mindset] has got to be resilient. Therefore, my hope for the future is that all millennials who are currently part of Krakatau International Port continue to innovate and dare to take risks in order to improve performance; so as to advance the growth of corporate revenues and the Indonesian economy,” Akbar concluded.
