Chicago Tiny House Wins Public Vote to Become Winners in Expensify.Org’s Community Justice Grant Challenge
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS – Expensify.org, a charity founded by the accounting platform Expensify, today announced CHICAGO TINY HOUSE as one of ten winners advancing from the public voting round for the Community Justice Grant Challenge. As a winner, CHICAGO TINY HOUSE could be provided up to $100,000 in funding to scale their efforts to bring affordable housing back to Chicago through the use oof tiny house communities.
After launching the Community Justice Grant Challenge in February and receiving more than 1,000 applications to advance community initiatives supporting climate justice, food security, housing equity, reentry services, or youth advocacy, Expensify.org announced CHICAGO TINY HOUSE as one of over 60 campaigns to be voted on by the public in Mid-July. Now, after receiving within the top-ten most public votes out of more than 10,000 total votes, the CHICAGO TINY HOUSE campaign has been announced as a winner eligible for as much as $100,000.
“The best part of this grant challenge has been connecting with so many absolutely amazing organizations, advocates, and organizers. It’s inspiring to see all the creative ways people across the world are fighting to make their communities across the world more just, healthy, and sustainable,” said Puneet Lath, a Director at Expensify. “These ten winners represent the campaigns for change the public are most excited about, but we at Expensify are thrilled to see each and every of our over 60 qualifying campaigns expand their reach as they strive to change the world around them.”

Chicago Tiny House, Inc. exists to create tiny house communities throughout Chicago that will provide homeless Chicagoans with safe, cost-effective housing and integrated supportive services.
We have been helping the homeless of Chicago for over 30 years collectively. Specifically working with the Uptown Tent City over the last two years. Tent City housed an estimated population of 70 people. Who all lived under the bridges of Wilson and Lawrence Avenues at Lake Shore Drive. Our cause does not stop with the elimination of this community.
We are completely volunteer-powered by bringing together concerned citizens, advocates, lawmakers, and donors. So, we can bring shelter, food, and supportive services to our most vulnerable neighbors, greatly reducing homelessness. While helping them move forward with dignity.
Chicago Tiny House has partnered with, and is in touch with, both sides of the housing problem. We are knowledgeable about, and actually live alongside, our target demographic. We have created a growing database of followers, developers, donors, contractors, government agencies, and laborers. So, we bring a unique perspective and experience to this process. We are committed Chicagoans with small-business acumen as well as having a boots-on-the-ground relationship with our local homeless population.
Our hope is to propose, implement, and operate Chicago’s first Tiny House Community.
